Amazon.com - Free must have iPhone App

The Amazon app allows iPhone and iPod touch owners to very quickly search, compare prices, read reviews, and make purchases on Amazon.com using simple, yet elegant, interface. Amazon customers have full access to their existing cart, wish lists, payment and shipping options, order history, 1-Click(TM) settings, and Prime membership benefits. All purchases made on Amazon Mobile are routed through Amazon's secure servers just as they are on the web.

The Amazon app also includes a new experimental feature called Amazon Remembers that allows you to use the camera on your iPhone to create a visual list of things you want to remember while out-and-about. The photos you take from the app stored on both the Amazon Mobile app and Amazon's website. If the item you want to remember is a product, Amazon Remembers will even try to find a product similar to your photo for sale on the web. If they do, they will send you an email alert and post the result along with the photo.

Check out the Amazon Remembers feature. It works great. Imagine shopping at your favorite store, you take a picture of a product on a shelf and out out that Amazon is selling it much cheaper than that store. Wow, it will save you a lot of Money. I have tried this feature with my Sony HDTV, Sony Playstation 3 80GB and Sony DCS 77 Digital Camera... and viola... they were all found.

What this application is clearly lacking and, frankly, just begging for, is a barcode scanner and real-time price comparison function. That would make it a killer app, indeed. And Snappr has proven barcode scanning on the iPhone is possible.

Please note: As the iPhone camera is lacking a macro modus you may need an additional lens in order to be able to take clear closeup pictures. I recommend the lens which comes with the Clarifi-Case, produced and sold by Griffin Technology. The scanning of large images works with the standard camera and no additional hardware is needed for this.
